The Biology degree empowers students for careers or further study in the broad and diverse field of life sciences - from the bio-medical field to research, teaching, and field biology. As a biology student at UMFK, you’ll benefit from small classes, supportive faculty, hands-on learning, and opportunities for mentored research that prepare you for a rewarding career in the life sciences. Opportunities include internships, research projects, and experiential field trips to places such as the Allagash Wilderness. Unique experiences available to our students include field trips to the Allagash Wilderness, paid internships at UMFK and are partnering institutions (e.g., UMaine, Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory), and the ability to conduct authentic research under the guidance of our world-class faculty. Our faculty are teacher-scholars, and proactively create opportunities to engage students in their areas of research, which include ecology, plant science, wildlife biology, and animal diseases.

Students in the Biology (BS) program are eligible for participation in the Bachelor - MBA, Accelerated Pathway (MaineMBA)  and the Bachelor - Juris Doctor, Accelerated Pathway (MaineLaw) .

The Biology (BS) degree will be awarded upon the successful completion of the program requirements and fulfillment of the University of Maine at Fort Kent graduation requirements.
