The University of Maine at Fort Kent RN to BSN YourPace program, powered by YourPace at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, offers a fully online, competency-based pathway for registered nurses ready to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The YourPace competency-based education model, delivered through a partnership between the UMFK and UMPI, is designed to meet the needs of working professionals so they can obtain their degree at their own pace. This model emphasizes the application of prior learning, including previous college coursework and professional experience, and allows students to progress through the program by demonstrating mastery of defined academic competencies.
The RN to BSN YourPace program is an online program for those who already are licensed Registered Nurses and want to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Graduates of state-approved diploma and associate degree programs in nursing are eligible to apply for admission to the baccalaureate program in the online RN to BSN YourPace track. This program is designed to be as flexible and responsive to individual student needs as possible within the constraints of curriculum, university and accreditation requirements, and quality educational theory. The length of the program is dependent upon the amount of acceptable transfer credit; success in completion of CLEP, proficiency, and nursing examinations; and part-time or full-time status.
Students may be eligible to be granted credit for prior learning, for example, credit for experiential learning, certificates, or through a process of challenge examinations. A total of up to 6 credits will be awarded for prior learning and/or certifications. Successful completion of the challenge exam, for a course that traditionally has a laboratory component, for example, microbiology, will equate to a waiver of the laboratory requirement. (4 credits total for didactic and laboratory).
Please note, international students enrolled in distance education (online) programs are not eligible for F-1 student status at UMFK.
Upon completion of all program requirements and university graduation requirements, the student will be awarded the Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing. Note, all NUR/HLT courses have a minimum grade of C+ and all other courses, including general education, have a minimum grade of C.
