NUR 102: Foundations of Professional Nursing II2 credits
This course encourages and empowers students to be well informed, responsible and respectful when making decisions that affect their well-being, as well as when assisting patients achieve their health and wellness goals. Personal and professional activities are geared towards promoting health and preventing illness, these areas are addresses while utilizing evidence-based research. Special attention is directed to factors affecting health and wellness. Elements such as cultural influences, cultural competence, death, grief, sexuality and spirituality are addressed. Complementary and alternative modalities used are also discussed as they apply to the delivery of holistic nursing care. Principles and factors affecting nutrition as they relate to patient care are incorporated into the course, ensuring that the nutritional needs of those we care for are met. This course examines care provided to the individual, family, and community utilizing a centered care approach. Two hour lecture
