Program Description
The Associate of Arts in Human Services degree prepares students for work in the behavioral health field with individuals, families, groups, and communities.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrates knowledge competence through understanding of the historical development of the Human Services field
- Applies critical thinking skills, using credible sources to evaluate problems and construct knowledge
- Effectively applies theory and evidence-based practice to inform application of skills and techniques
- Adopts a cultural humility orientation towards professional behavior aligned with ethical responsibilities while advocating for the wellbeing of others
- Demonstrates effective oral, written, and technological communication
- Partners effectively with the individuals, family, and interdisciplinary team(s), to build relationships and foster open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision making
- Demonstrates accountability as a professional, working ethically and professionally within the Human Services field
- Effectively works to strengthen positive outcomes in rural and urban environments.
Required Advisor
Each student in Human Services, within the first year of attending UMFK, shall select an advisor from among the full-time faculty in the Behavioral Sciences. The advisor will guide the career and professional choices of the student.
