The University of Maine at Fort Kent is committed to providing its students with a well-rounded education. To that end, all undergraduate, degree-seeking students complete general education courses that span a cross-section of human knowledge and experience from three major areas; Intellectual and Practical Skills, General Knowledge, and Global Awareness. Associates degrees require 28 credits of general education and bachelor degrees require 40 credits.
The description provided represents the minimum credits for each category. Based on student choices, additional credits over 28 for associates degrees or 40 for bachelors degrees, will count as free electives. If a student has general education credits waived, the credits may need to be made up as free electives to reach the minimum credits for their degree.
Some program requirements may fulfill general education requirements, as indicated in program descriptions.
