Bachelor of Arts and Sciences Allied Health Concentration (BAS)

The Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Allied Health is a completion degree for licensed or licensure eligible allied health graduates of associate degrees in the numerous allied health disciplines where there is no discipline specific bachelor degree available. This degree allows two-year health degree students the opportunity to advance in their chosen health profession or continue into a graduate program. The curriculum is designed as a “+2” degree allowing students to transfer 50 credits of their professional coursework.

As an integral part of its parent institution, the Division of Nursing and Allied Health will sustain high-quality programs that meet the diverse needs of students and will serve as a catalyst for healthcare careers and professional development.

Program Description/Goals

The Division of Nursing and Allied Health offers a baccalaureate program leading to the degree, Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Allied Health. This program is intended to serve Allied Health associate degree graduates who wish to upgrade their academic credentials to include the baccalaureate degree. The BAS with a concentration in Allied Heath degree program provides graduates of health care programs the opportunity to gain the added expertise needed to expand their professional roles in the health care system.

In fulfillment of its mission, the Division of Nursing and Allied Health will:

  1. Prepare Allied Health graduates to meet the rural healthcare workforce needs of Northern New England and beyond.
  2. Foster the development of graduates with the ability to function competently as an entry level Allied Health professionals.
  3. Prepare graduates who exhibit a commitment to professional ethics and behavior.
  4. Support the development of graduates who demonstrate appropriate problem solving, communication, and critical thinking skills in the clinical/didactic settings.
  5. Develop graduates who understand the importance of responsibility, accountability, values, ethics and lifelong learning.
  6. Prepare graduates to interpret the influences of patient safety, health policy, and finance on or within healthcare delivery systems.

Student Learning Outcomes

At the end of the program, the graduate of the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Allied Health Upgrade Completion program will be able to:

  1. Function as a member of the health care team using appropriate health care language.
  2. Communicate effectively with patients and their families.
  3. Apply problem solving and critical thinking skills within the scope of their practice in coordination with team members to foster good patient outcomes.
  4. Demonstrate clinical competence while performing duties safely and effectively within their scope of practice, while treating patients with compassion, empathy, and respect.
  5. Exhibit professional behaviors and ethical decision-making consistent with that of contemporary health professionals.
  6. Utilize evidence-based practice to promote health, prevent disease, and manage illness for individuals, families, communities, and populations.
  7. Demonstrate leadership and management in decision making, delegation, and interdisciplinary collaboration to provide safe, coordinated, high quality care.
  8. Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to this program, you must:

  • Have or be currently pursuing an Allied Health Associate’s degree through a regionally-accredited college
  • Secure state certification or licensure upon completion of your Associate’s degree
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

General Education Requirements

In accordance with University policy, all baccalaureate candidates must complete the general education requirements. Transfer credits are considered on an individual basis. All general education courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C”.
